Frequently asked questions

BSP Internship: your questions answered

How much will I earn?

Once you're found suitable by the NDIS Commission, contractor Behaviour Support Practitioner roles with ConnectFirst™ are expected to pay $90 to $150 per hour, depending on your level, experience and contracted arrangements. While you train, you can keep your current job or work with us in a paid Allied Health Assistant role.

Is the internship paid?

The internship itself is a training pathway: the training and supervision are free for selected interns. It's not an unpaid work placement. If you choose to work with us as an Allied Health Assistant while you train, that role is paid.

What does an Allied Health Assistant do?

You'll support our practitioners and the families we work with, for example by helping put behaviour support strategies into practice and gathering information, under supervision. It's a paid way to build hands-on experience while you train.

Can I stay in my current job?

Yes. Many interns keep their current job and income while they train. The coursework is self-paced, 1:1 supervision is booked around your week and group sessions are recorded.

Where are you recruiting?

We're looking for interns across North West WA, including Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland, Exmouth, Carnarvon, Onslow, Newman, Tom Price, Derby, Kununurra, Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek. Our training and supervision is online, so applicants elsewhere in Australia are welcome too.

Do I need to relocate?

No. Training and supervision are online, and our roles include telehealth and in-person work, so you can stay where you live.

Who can apply?

Professionals with a relevant qualification: the NDIS Commission considers a bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) or higher in a relevant field such as education, psychology, occupational therapy, speech pathology, nursing, social work or behavioural science, and may consider other qualifications that align with the PBS Capability Framework. Experience working with people with disability is important too.

How much time will it take?

The Six-Week Intensive is designed to fit around work and family, with self-paced coursework, 1:1 supervision booked to suit you and recorded group sessions.

What do I commit to?

Selected interns commit to working with ConnectFirst™ once they're found suitable. We'll talk through what that involves on your qualifying call back, before you start.

Is a job guaranteed?

No. We can't guarantee work or income, and NDIS suitability is decided by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. What we do guarantee is supervisor endorsement for your application when you complete the training and supervision requirements, and contractor opportunities are offered subject to suitability and demand.

What if I'm not offered an internship?

You can still enrol in the Six-Week Intensive and supervision as a paying participant.

What checks do I need?

An NDIS Worker Screening Check and a Working with Children (or vulnerable people) check. For contractor roles you'll also need your own ABN and insurance.
